Italy’s inflation hits 6.7% in March, highest level since 1991

Italy’s annual inflation rate climbed for the ninth consecutive month in March, rising to 6.7% from 5.7% in February and reaching the highest level since July 1991, according to preliminary data released by ISTAT on Thursday, ANSA reports.

The national statistics agency said its consumer-price index was up by 1.2% in month-on-month terms.

It said its ‘trolley index’ of frequently bought items such as food and household goods was up by 5% this month, compared to 4.1% in February.
