Bishkek: The Water Resources Service under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic has received modern specialized equipment designed for maintaining irrigation canals, as reported by Trend via the ministry.

According to Trend News Agency, the equipment was provided through the grant project 'Improving the Equipment for the Maintenance of Irrigation Canals', funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The initiative aims to replace outdated equipment and provide additional tools necessary for the effective maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems across the country, supported by JICA's financial allocation of $7.3 million.

The official handover ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev, Ambassador of Japan to Kyrgyzstan Goda Hideki, Member of the Jogorku Kenesh Talaibek Masabirov, JICA's Permanent Representative in Kyrgyzstan Nishigata Kotaro, and senior officials of the Water Resources Service. During the event, 17 units of specialized equipment were handed over, with JICA planning to deliver a total of 34 units by the end of 2025.

The newly received equipment will be distributed among regional and district hydrological management entities to ensure the timely and effective upkeep of the nation's irrigation systems.
