On March 5, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Taffere Tesfachew, director of the UN Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries, within the framework of the Fifth UN Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC5), where our country is represented as a donor partner, the Azerbaijani MFA told APA.
During the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the role of technological assistance in the development of the least developed countries in various fields, including the possibilities of cooperation in the provision of assistance in this direction.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the other party about the projects and initiatives implemented by Azerbaijan in the direction of providing humanitarian aid, including development assistance to the least developed countries. In this regard, it was emphasized that development aid projects aimed at the development of human capital in the least developed countries are of priority importance.
The minister pointed out that the International Development Assistance Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AIDA), which operates under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, implements international aid programs in various fields, including education, health, infrastructure, management.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other side in detail about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the large-scale restoration and construction works carried out by Azerbaijan in the territories liberated from occupation, including the efforts made by Azerbaijan in the direction of advancing the peace agenda, and the provocations of the Armenian side.
Director Taffere Tesfachew, informing about the activities and priorities of the UN Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries, said that the main goal of the Bank is to support their economic and social development by providing technological assistance to the least developed countries of the world. Taffere Tesfachew stated that Azerbaijan’s international aid policy in this direction is commendable and emphasized the importance of strengthening global efforts in this regard.
During the meeting, opinions were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
