Aktau: Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are set to strengthen their environmental cooperation through several initiatives, with a focus on the development of satellite monitoring systems aimed at preventing and responding to oil spills. This was revealed by Kazakhstan's Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Yerlan Nyssanbayev, in an interview with AZERTAC.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the cooperation between the two nations will also explore the application of digital and innovative environmental technologies, effective water resource management, and the exchange of expertise in biodiversity protection. Additionally, they plan to engage in joint scientific and educational initiatives to enhance their environmental collaboration.
Nyssanbayev announced two significant events scheduled for this year at the Kazakh Research Institute of the Caspian Sea in Aktau. These events aim to enhance scientific collaboration among the Caspian littoral states, including Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. The first event is a training seminar focused on monitoring the marine environment of the Caspian Sea. Meanwhile, the second event will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Tehran Convention, focusing on joint scientific research to tackle current challenges faced by the Caspian Sea.
The minister underscored that satellite monitoring will be a priority area in the environmental cooperation between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. The events are planned to take place in Aktau between June and August, and will see participation from specialists and scientists from all the Caspian littoral states.
