Astana: Kazatomprom company is ready for potential uranium deficit, First Deputy CEO – Chief Financial Officer of NAC Kazatomprom JSC, Marat Tulebayev said at the “Nuclear Power: Progress and Security” session at the 16th KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum “A New Energy Order: Focus on Middle Powers”, Trend reports.
According to Trend News Agency, Tulebayev emphasized that leading analysts predict a structural uranium deficit by the middle of the next decade. Kazatomprom has positioned itself to address this challenge, having supported nuclear energy for many years, even during periods of low uranium prices. Tulebayev pointed out that sustained low prices have discouraged investment in opening and operating new mines, which has contributed to the anticipated shortfall.
He further explained that the majority of easily accessible uranium resources have been exhausted, marking the end of an era of cheap uranium. This situation necessitates a focus on sustainable uranium development and production.
Kazatomprom’s strategic direction for the coming decade is heavily influenced by Kazakhstan’s national agenda for nuclear power plant construction. The company is committed to responsible resource management, expanding and diversifying its business activities, enhancing its trading capabilities, and consistently improving its business practices and standards.
