Bishkek: Kyrgyzstan has emerged as a leader in providing affordable fixed broadband services, offering an average monthly price of $11.7.

According to Trend News Agency, this positions Kyrgyzstan as a significant player in the market for cost-effective internet services, highlighted through a comparative analysis of international statistics conducted by Rosstat.

The analysis reveals a distinct divide in global internet pricing, with Western countries imposing higher tariffs compared to the more competitive pricing seen in post-Soviet and Asian markets. Among these, Russia ranks second globally with an average monthly cost of $8.7. India offers the world’s most affordable internet service at $7.7 per month, while Romania offers a competitive rate of $9.8.

Kyrgyzstan’s pricing is comparable to other low-cost internet markets, including China at $11.3, Uzbekistan at $11.5, Kazakhstan at $12.7, Turkey at $13.8, Bulgaria at $14.6, and Lithuania at $16.5. In contrast, consumers in North America and Western Europe face higher costs, with the United States leading at $72.1 per month, followed by Canada at $61.7 and Luxembourg at $59.1.

The study also assessed the impact of internet costs on household budgets as a percentage of average income, revealing challenges in certain middle-income nations. The highest income shares dedicated to internet access are found in Brazil (4.1 percent), Mexico (3.8 percent), and Argentina (3.65 percent). Conversely, Russia offers the most affordable internet relative to earnings, requiring only 0.67 percent of the average paycheck, followed by Romania at 0.9 percent and South Korea at 0.97 percent. This indicates that Kyrgyzstan and its regional counterparts benefit not only from low prices but also from high affordability in their economic contexts.
