Bishkek: Kyrgyzstan’s Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov and Tatiana Proskuryakova, the regional director of the World Bank for Central Asia, have engaged in discussions to advance the Kambarata HPP-1 construction project. The meeting was reported by the country’s Cabinet of Ministers and highlighted the focus on enhancing the hydropower project.

According to Trend News Agency, both parties also explored the current state of bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the World Bank, along with the reforms being implemented by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic. The discussions underscored a mutual commitment to continue effective collaboration for the socio-economic development of Kyrgyzstan.

The dialogue occurred during the National Development Forum 2024, which centered on “Human Capital and Sustainable Development.” The construction of the Kambarata HPP-1 is scheduled to commence in 2025, with the first hydro unit slated for commissioning in 2028. The project, with an estimated cost between $4
.5 billion and $5 billion, aims to have a capacity of 1,860 MW and is expected to generate 5.6 billion kWh of electricity annually.
