Lars road connecting Armenia with Russia closed for 15 days

Several roads of international importance in Georgia remain closed for 15 days due to the snowy weather condition, APA’s Georgia bureau reports.

In connection with the occurred situation, Georgia’s Roads Department under the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure applies a special regime in several fields. The main restriction applies to the Mtskheta-Stepansminda-Lars road, which is Georgia’s only land route with Russia and leads to the Upper Lars customs checkpoint. Although regular snow removal and salt spreading works are carried out in the Gudauri-Kobi part located on the North-South transport corridor, severe cold and falling snow, as well as the danger of avalanches, have caused the road to be regularly closed during the past 2 weeks. And this led to the formation of long lines of trucks on the road.

Lars road which is also known as “Military road” is the only highway that connects Armenia with Russia.

In this regard, most trucks on the road are also observed to belong to Armenia.

A similar situation also arose in other ways which connect Georgia with Türkiye.
