Sheki: Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, visited the Muhammad Fuzuli Culture and Recreation Park in Sheki on June 30 to review restoration and reconstruction plans for the area. Established in 1951, the park is set to undergo major renovations, with a focus on the iconic 1,800-seat "Summer Theatre," historically a cultural hub for residents and visitors.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the Summer Theatre between 1975 and 1980 hosted performances by notable figures such as pop and opera singer Rashid Behbudov, People's Artist Zeynab Khanlarova, and the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Niyazi. In subsequent decades, the venue featured theatrical performances by Nasiba Zeynalova and Hajibaba Baghirov, and concerts by mugham and folk performers, including Alibaba Mammadov, Sakhavat Mammadov, and Melekkhanim Ayyubova.
The preservation work has commenced with the careful restoration of the bust of the Azerbaijani poet Muhammad Fuzuli, which has been returned to its place in the park. The project's primary goal is to restore the park's original frescoes, revitalize the theater, and showcase works by local sculptors, transforming the park into a vibrant, modern family recreation space.
