Malaysian authorities intend to participate in the restoration of mosques and religious monuments in Karabakh

On November 12, members of the Azerbaijani-Malaysian working group on interparliamentary relations met with members of the Malaysian-Azerbaijani interparliamentary group in the House of Representatives of the Malaysian Parliament in an online video conference.

Press and Public Relations Department of Parliament AZERTAG told the meeting, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ali Huseynli, deputy chairman of House of Representatives of Malaysia, Dato Haji Mohd Rashid bin Hasnon also attended by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Malaysia Irfan Davudov.

Ali Huseynli conveyed the greetings of the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova to the meeting participants and wished them success. Noting that we attach great importance to the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation with friendly Malaysia, the First Vice Speaker stressed the importance of intensifying mutual visits, developing cooperation within international organizations and improving professional relations between friendship groups.

Noting that this week in Azerbaijan we celebrate the most important date of our independence – Victory Day, Ali Huseynli stressed that the deliberate political and military provocations of the Armenian government, which lasted for years, led to the Patriotic War. As a result, Azerbaijan used its right of self-defense to launch a counterattack against Armenia on its territory. Azerbaijan has successfully implemented UN Security Council resolutions, rightly restored its territorial integrity and defeated Armenia. This was a military victory of the President and the Army of Azerbaijan.

The First Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis informed the Malaysian parliamentarians that according to the capitulation act signed by Armenia, Armenia was forced to withdraw its troops from the rest of Azerbaijan – Agdam, Lachin and Kalbajar regions. This was our political victory. During the occupation, Islamic monuments in those areas – dozens of mosques, tombs, places of worship, cultural buildings – became the target of Armenian vandalism. During the Armenian occupation, mosques were used as stables for pigs and cattle. Ali Huseynli said that by liberating the occupied territories, Azerbaijan has protected both Islamic values and the dignity of the people. The Karabakh conflict is a thing of the past, and the Karabakh and East Zangazur economic zones have been established in those regions.

The First Vice Speaker of the Milli Majlis stressed that we appreciated Malaysia’s political support for the restoration of Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized territories during the Great Patriotic War.

During the video conference, Dato Haji Mohd Rashid bin Hasnon, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Malaysian Parliament, thanked the working group on interparliamentary relations with Malaysia for organizing the meeting on behalf of the parliamentarians of his organization and thanked Azerbaijan for the invitation. He congratulated the people of Azerbaijan on the Victory Day – the first anniversary of the Victory in the 44-day Patriotic War.

Dato Haji Mohd Rashid bin Hasnon noted that they have always supported the establishment of bilateral relations on the basis of peace and mutual trust, especially in the development of cooperation with Azerbaijan. He spoke with satisfaction about the long-standing economic ties between the two countries and fruitful cooperation in the oil and gas sector. He spoke about the construction work carried out by the Azerbaijani state in the regions destroyed by Armenia during the occupation, noting that Malaysian institutions also want to participate in the restoration of mosques and religious monuments.

At the online meeting, the head of the Azerbaijani-Malaysian working group on interparliamentary relations Vugar Bayramov noted the high level of political, economic and strategic relations between the two countries. He said that after our victory in the 44-day war, a new reality has emerged in the region. The countries that support the just cause of Azerbaijan are participating in the process of restoration and reconstruction in our liberated territories, and will make investments in the next stage. Of course, Azerbaijan is also interested in Malaysian companies that have supported it in the cause of justice, such as the restoration of territorial integrity, to invest in liberated Karabakh and surrounding areas.

Noting that the trade turnover between the two countries will double in 2020, Vugar Bayramov said that there is a greater potential for the development of both trade and economic relations. He spoke about the deepened reforms carried out under the leadership of the President of Azerbaijan in the field of economic diversification, the successes achieved in recent years in developing the non-oil sector and eliminating dependence on oil. He said that currently the non-oil sector accounts for about 70 percent of GDP.

Emphasizing the dynamic development of relations between the two countries, the head of the working group said that Malaysia is also an oil country, and our cooperation in applying the example of Azerbaijan on these reforms and expanding the exchange of experience would be useful.

Mamun bin Sulaiman, a member of the Malaysian-Azerbaijani interparliamentary group, said in a video conference that they were looking forward to his visit to Azerbaijan and wanted to get acquainted with our country. He also expressed his desire to see his Azerbaijani counterparts in Malaysia. He stressed the great interest in cooperation in trade, investment and other fields.

During the meeting, member of the Azerbaijani-Malaysian working group on interparliamentary relations Emin Hajiyev briefed Malaysian MPs on the state youth policy pursued in Azerbaijan. He noted that young people are widely represented in parliament, and spoke about the activities of Azerbaijani youth in the country and in international organizations.

The questions of Malaysian MPs were answered at the online meeting.

In conclusion, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Malaysia Irfan Davudov shared his views.

Members of the Azerbaijani-Malaysian working group on interparliamentary relations Aydin Huseynov, Elshan Musayev and Jabi Guliyev also attended the video conference.
