Astana: Masdar, a UAE-based renewable energy company, is making significant strides in Central Asia, setting its sights on achieving 100 gigawatts (GW) of clean energy capacity by 2030. Maryam Al Mazrouei, Head of Business Development and Investment for the CIS region at Masdar, announced this ambitious goal at the KAZENERGY Forum in Astana.

According to Trend News Agency, Al Mazrouei emphasized the strategic value of the Central Asian and CIS regions for Masdar, underscoring the company’s pioneering role. She noted that Masdar is currently operational in over 40 countries with a project portfolio exceeding 50 GW across various continents. The company’s leadership has set an ambitious target of reaching 100 GW by 2030, and the Central Asian market is a crucial part of this strategy.

Al Mazrouei highlighted the company’s early entry into the Central Asian market, describing it as a core focus for Masdar. She encouraged other companies and investors to explore the region, which is abundant in solar and wind resources. “We were the first mover in this region, and we’re very proud of that,” she stated.

Discussing specific activities, Al Mazrouei detailed Masdar’s projects in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. In Uzbekistan, Masdar has deployed around $2 billion for 2 GW of projects. In Azerbaijan, they began operations in 2018 and have developed the first utility-scale project, with a current portfolio capacity of approximately 1.2 GW, representing investments of over $1 billion.
