Baku: Measures to optimize traffic flow in Baku have been announced, APA reports. Fariz Azizov, Advisor on Institutional Development to the Chairman of the Board of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads (AAYDA), spoke about this during an event dedicated to Baku's Master Plan held within the framework of WUF13.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Fariz Azizov highlighted the rapid transformations occurring in Baku, emphasizing the challenges faced in urban planning due to the fast-paced changes in cities. He noted the importance of long-term strategic planning to address these challenges, underscoring the 'State Program on the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in the City of Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025-2030.' This program, aligned with the 'Baku Master Plan 2040,' aims to reshape urban mobility, improve quality of life, reduce structural pressures, and support Baku's transformation into a sustainable metropolitan space.
Azizov pointed out that population growth, urbanization, economic expansion, and mobility demands are exerting new pressures on transport infrastructure. The approach of the Azerbaijan State Agency of Automobile Roads extends beyond traditional road construction, focusing on creating alternative transport corridors, redistributing traffic flows, and building more flexible mobility systems. The agency is implementing 26 major road infrastructure projects, including the Bilajari-Khirdalan-Shamakhi highway, which will connect the M1 Baku-Guba highway with the M4 Baku-Shamakhi highway, reducing congestion and environmental pressure on Baku.
The new road connection between Academician Hasan Aliyev Street and the 'Koroglu' metro station is another significant project, nearly 50 percent complete. This project aims to create alternative east-west urban connections, enhancing mobility between different city parts. Azizov emphasized the importance of pedestrian safety and accessibility, with projects like the transport and pedestrian tunnels at the 'Chanlibel' residential complex showcasing a human-centered approach.
Additionally, a new road connection between Hasan bey Zardabi Street and Hajiaga Rustamov Street will help create alternative routes and ensure a more rational distribution of traffic flows. Azizov stressed that the strength of these projects lies in creating an integrated metropolitan mobility system in collaboration with partner institutions, essential for modern urban development.
