Mehriban Aliyeva Attends “Thikra Night of Remembering” Performance at Baku Festival

Baku:First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva attended the performance of "Thikra Night of Remembering" at the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater. The event was part of the Baku International Arts Festival (BIAF-2026).

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Mehriban Aliyeva was accompanied by her family members during the viewing of the production. "Thikra Night of Remembering" is the latest work by the acclaimed director and choreographer Akram Khan. The production was commissioned by Wadi AlFann, a contemporary art center based in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia.

The performance featured an all-female ensemble and focused on themes of spiritual renewal through sacred rituals and shared recollections. It included an original score by Indian-American singer and composer Aditya Prakash. The visual aesthetics were crafted by artist Manal Al-Dowayan, known for her work exhibited at the Saudi Arabian pavilion during the 60th Venice Biennale. The production blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary forms, featuring natural dyes and geometric motifs that reflect Al-Ula’s heritage.

The play premiered in January 2025 and draws on the ancient landscapes, mythology, and cultural heritage of Al-Ula. It represents Akram Khan Company's final touring production in collaboration with visual artist Manal Al-Dowayan.
