Armenian Deportations Deemed Crime Against Humanity, Says Azerbaijani MP

Baku: Armenia’s alleged deportation of Western Azerbaijanis constitutes a crime against humanity, according to a prominent Azerbaijani parliamentarian. The call for justice and the return of displaced Azerbaijanis has been reiterated by Sabina Salmanova, a member of the defense, security, and anti-corruption committee of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament).

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Salmanova emphasized the right of Azerbaijanis to return to their ancestral lands, describing it as a historical, moral, human, and legal entitlement. She urged Armenia to adhere to international law and refrain from creating obstacles for their return. Salmanova highlighted that since the early 20th century, Azerbaijanis have faced forced deportations from Western Azerbaijan due to ethnic cleansing policies, underscoring that “deportation is a crime against humanity.”

Salmanova further noted that Azerbaijan’s President, Ilham Aliyev, has consistently raised the issue of these historical injustices at internati
onal forums, demanding the restoration of rights for the Western Azerbaijani community. Her statements reflect ongoing tensions and the complex historical grievances between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as both nations continue to grapple with the legacies of past conflicts.
