Middle Corridor Experiences Surge in Cargo Flows, Says KazGrain

BAKU—The Middle Corridor, a key transit route through Kazakhstan, has seen a notable increase in cargo flows, signaling robust growth amidst broader economic challenges. This development was discussed by Kanat Kobessov, chairperson of the Supervisory Board of ‘NurZholCompany’ and head of the Council of the National Association of Exporters ‘KazGrain’, during the “International Transport Corridors in the Black and Caspian Sea Region” session at the Black and Caspian Freight Forum 2024.

According to Trend News Agency, Kobessov outlined the growing importance of the Eurasian region within the global transportation network, emphasizing the dynamic shifts in trade routes. “The Eurasian region has become an increasingly important part of the global transportation system in recent years, and three key corridors play a significant role in this process. The Northern Corridor, passing through eastern Russia, is losing ground due to geopolitical and economic changes. In contrast, the middle corridor through Kazakhstan is growing strongly,” he stated.

Kobessov also highlighted the emergence of the Southern Corridor, which enhances connectivity between the Caucasus and Central Asia via Kazakhstan. The ongoing developments and expansions in railway infrastructure are critical to supporting the increasing cargo volumes. With trade in the Eurasian region expected to grow by at least 2 percent annually, there is a pressing need to adapt and enhance transport logistics to manage the rising flow of goods effectively.
