A military helicopter from Azerbaijan’s State Border Guard Service (DSX) has crashed, killing 14 and injuring two military personnel.
The DSX and the South Caucasus nation’s Prosecutor-General’s Office said in a joint statement that the aircraft crashed on November 30 during military maneuvers near the Qaraheybat airport in the eastern district of Xizi.
Two colonels, five majors, three captains, one captain from the military medical service, two lieutenants, and a contractor died in the crash, the DSX said in a statement.
A colonel and a captain survived the crash and are being treated for injuries, it added.
An earlier statement from the DSX and Prosecutor-General’s Office said that a joint investigation has been launched into the accident.
