Baku: Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Prime Minister of Lithuania Inga Ruginiene, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA. The meeting focused on the prospects for developing existing friendly relations and mutual cooperation between Azerbaijan and Lithuania. High-level visits and political dialogues were recognized as key components in expanding cooperation between the two nations. Emphasis was placed on the significant role that education and cultural exchanges play in deepening people-to-people ties, with a considerable number of Azerbaijani students studying in Lithuania and numerous cultural events being held.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the importance of interparliamentary cooperation was also highlighted. The conversation covered how mutual visits and the activities of interparliamentary working groups contribute to enhanced dialogue between their legislative bodies. Discussions also touched on the need for deepening cooperation between relevant parliamentary committees.
Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene expressed Lithuania's commitment to strengthening relations with Azerbaijan, noting the broad opportunities available for cooperation in areas like the economy, humanitarian affairs, defense, and security. She emphasized her membership in the friendship group with Azerbaijan in the Lithuanian parliament and stressed the role of parliaments in fostering bilateral relations through expanded activities of working groups and increased mutual visits.
Following the meeting, the guests toured the plenary hall of the Milli Majlis and the Victory Corner in the parliament's foyer, concluding their visit with a commemorative photo. Prime Minister Ruginiene later shared on X, noting that Lithuania and Azerbaijan share a history of solidarity and expressing optimism about the opportunities to strengthen partnerships across various fields for the benefit of both countries.
