Minister: “Armenia still continues to pollute Okhchuchay river”

“The untreated industrial water of the Gajaran copper-molybdenum plant in Armenia, as well as the Gafan ore processing plant, as well as the continuous discharge of domestic wastewater from the cities of Gafan and Gajaran has caused pollution of the river basin. This degrades the ecological system of the areas where the river passes through in Azerbaijan,” said Minister of Ecology and National Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev, APA reports.

According to him, the constant exposure of the Oxchuchay to acute pollution in the territory of Armenia has a very negative impact on the irrigation of arable lands and drinking water supply in the region: “An appeal has been addressed to international organizations on the need to prevent constant pollution of the Oxchuchay river and to take urgent measures in this regard, and calls were made to solve this problem together. At the same time, public awareness is actively carried out. However, unfortunately, despite all such appeals and legitimate demands, Armenia continues to pollute the Oxchuchay.”
