Baku: More than 35 solar-powered base stations have been installed in Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan's initiative to promote renewable energy and reduce environmental impact. Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport, Rashad Hasanov, highlighted these efforts during a panel discussion titled 'From COP29 to Climate Week: Digital Action Pathway for a Green World,' which was part of the Baku Climate Action Week 2026. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Hasanov emphasized the significant role of digital document exchange between institutions in conserving resources. This digital shift is saving approximately 5 million pages every month, which translates into preserving more than 6,000 trees annually. He also discussed the country's use of technology to address environmental challenges, such as monitoring drought, desertification, and water resources through satellites, remote sensing, and geographic information systems. The Deputy Minister further elaborated on measures being taken to mitigate the environmental footprint of the telecommunications sector. He mentioned that solar-powered base stations have been deployed, which operate on renewable energy for over 60% of their functioning time. The deployment of more than 35 such stations in Karabakh exemplifies Azerbaijan's commitment to leveraging digital action for sustainable development. These efforts are contributing to reduced paper usage, lower energy consumption, forest conservation, and overall improved environmental outcomes.
