Baku: Azerbaijani MPs have proposed severing ties with the European Parliament and withdrawing from the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly following the adoption of an anti-Azerbaijan resolution. MP Bahruz Maharramov highlighted the lack of deep relations with the European Parliament, describing its recent resolution as another political provocation against Azerbaijan's sovereignty.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Maharramov criticized the European Parliament's resolution dated April 30, 2026, labeling it as a 'collection of words' that contradicts international law and interstate relations. He emphasized that Azerbaijan should not leave such provocations unanswered.
MP Elshan Musayev supported the call for suspending all relations with the European Parliament and withdrawing from the Euronest PA. Meanwhile, MP Zakir Shukurov noted that the resolution titled 'Supporting democratic resilience in Armenia' targets Azerbaijan with baseless claims, undermining peace efforts in the region.
Chairman Zahid Oruj of the Human Rights Committee pointed out the European Parliament's historical bias, noting its contradictory stance on territorial integrity issues. He criticized the European Parliament for turning into a platform for defeated states and intensifying attacks against Azerbaijan post-2020 victory in the Patriotic War.
Samad Seyidov, Chairman of the Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Relations, recalled a previous instance in 2015 when the Azerbaijani Parliament cut ties with the European Parliament due to unfounded resolutions. He mentioned how relations were later restored after assurances from the European Parliament, only for Azerbaijan to face 13 more resolutions against it since.
