Baku: The successful hosting of COP29 in Baku has once again highlighted Azerbaijan's dedication to international climate cooperation and practical climate action, according to Mukhtar Babayev, the Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues. Babayev made this statement during his speech at the event titled 'Development of Azerbaijan's First National Sustainability Standard: Sustainable Practices Standard (SPS)', organized within the framework of the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF13) in Baku.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mukhtar Babayev pointed out that cities are currently facing significant climate risks. He highlighted the increasing occurrence of floods, heatwaves, droughts, hurricanes, and infrastructure problems as a result of climate change. Babayev stressed that these challenges are not a future concern but a present reality that impacts the global economy, public health, and the daily lives of millions.

Babayev further emphasized that implementing sustainable practices is crucial for transforming sustainability from a theoretical concept into practical action. This transformation, he noted, ensures a more efficient use of resources and enhances accountability. He described the development of Azerbaijan's first national sustainability standard as a significant step forward, advocating for sustainable development to be integrated into planning processes and daily institutional activities, rather than being limited to strategies and declarations.
