Nadal equals Federer in most outdoor wins

Spaniard Rafael Nadal came out on top in the history of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in the number of victories on open courts in his career, he shares the record with the Swiss Roger Federer, according to Lost Sports.

Federer won 953 open-court matches in his career. The 40-year-old Swiss has won 77 of his 103 singles titles while playing outdoors. Federer underwent two knee surgeries last year. The Swiss has not played a match since last July, when he reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals. It is expected that the ex-first racket of the world may return to competition in late summer or early autumn.

The Masters series is currently taking place in Indian Wells, USA. Before his start, the 35-year-old Nadal had 949 outdoor victories. On Thursday, the Spaniard defeated the Australian Nick Kiryos (7:6 (7:0), 5:7, 6:4) and advanced to the semi-finals. This victory was his fourth in the tournament.

This season, Nadal won 19 consecutive victories (the Spaniard did not play another match due to the absence of an opponent) and won three titles, including the first Grand Slam tournament of the season – the Australian Open, in the final of which he defeated Russian Daniil Medvedev.

Nadal last lost on August 6, 2021. At the tournament in Washington, he lost to the South African Lloyd Harris. The Spaniard missed the end of last season due to injury.
