Urumqi: An official meeting took place in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, to advance cooperation between Nakhchivan State University and Xinjiang University of China. Ma Xinbin, President of Xinjiang University; Shawulie Yimahazi, Vice-President; Tian Xin, Deputy Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation; Zinati Abulikemu, Deputy Director of the Urumqi Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, and staff member Huang Jiawen were present at the meeting.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting involved extensive discussions about potential areas for collaboration. Elbrus Isayev, Rector of Nakhchivan State University, provided detailed information about the university's activities, particularly highlighting its international partnerships. At the initial stage, both parties agreed to undertake joint projects in green energy, establish a dual degree program in Information Security, and initiate joint centers focusing on artificial intelligence and biotechnology.
The parties also concurred on establishing a joint Silk Road Research Centre. This endeavor aims to expand research activities, enhance academic exchanges, and deepen international cooperation. Additionally, the importance of existing sister-city relations between Urumqi and Nakhchivan was emphasized, as these relations create a conducive environment for expanding cooperation in cultural and academic fields. The enhancement of inter-university relations is expected to bolster the intercity partnership further.
Following the meeting, the Azerbaijani delegation had an opportunity to tour Xinjiang University's campus, including its Artificial Intelligence Centre and innovation laboratories.
