Baku: The National Flag Square in Baku, a significant symbol of Azerbaijani identity and pride, has reopened following an extensive restoration. This prominent feature, highlighted in AZERTAC’s ‘If I Were a Tourist’ column, is located in the Bayil settlement and encompasses a memorial, a recreation park, and other symbols of Azerbaijan’s statehood. Originally inaugurated on September 1, 2010, the square recently underwent significant updates.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the National Flag Square saw the installation of a new flagpole after its restoration in 2024. The flag, measuring 40 meters in width and 80 meters in length, is hoisted on a 201-meter-tall flagpole with a 5.7-meter diameter at its base. This impressive setup has been recognized by Guinness World Records as having the largest flag in the world. The renovated square was reopened to the public on Azerbaijan’s Victory Day, November 8, 2024, offering visitors a breathtaking panoramic view, especially when illuminated at night.

The National Flag Museum, a key attraction within the complex, showcases the National Flag of Azerbaijan alongside various flags and emblems from different historical periods of the country. The museum provides an educational experience for visitors, offering insights into the evolution of Azerbaijan’s national symbols through interactive displays.
