Baku: Nearly 300 inmates have been released in Azerbaijan following the implementation of an amnesty initiative, as announced by the Ministry of Justice. This initiative is part of the Amnesty Act, which was executed in the presence of key governmental and public stakeholders.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the decision to declare an amnesty was made by the Milli Majlis on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, celebrating the 'Year of Constitution and Sovereignty.' The execution of this decision involved coordination among the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Justice, the Public Council under the Ministry, Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva, Member of Parliament Zahid Oruj, and media representatives.

The Ministry of Justice has been actively facilitating the release of inmates by presenting necessary documents to those covered under the amnesty. This initiative extends beyond penitentiary institutions to include individuals under probation supervision. It affects those sentenced to restrictions of liberty, community service, corrective labor, fines, as well as individuals with suspended sentences or those conditionally released early from punishment.

The implementation process at the Probation Service is being overseen by relevant state bodies, the Public Council under the Ministry, and media representatives. It aims to release individuals from penalties that do not involve deprivation of liberty. Inmates and their families have expressed their gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev, committing to adhere to the law and contribute positively to society.

The Ministry of Justice's structural units are fully mobilized to ensure the amnesty is implemented swiftly and in accordance with legislative requirements.
