NTRC calls TV channels to responsibility

Today, a meeting with the program directors of TV channels and heads of news departments at the National Council on Television and Radio (NTRC) was held today. During the meeting, the issue of non-observance of issues of privacy and professional ethics on the air was discussed.

The reason for the discussion was the violation of these norms in recent days on TV channels in connection with a sexually abused 11-year-old girl who gave birth to a child.

The open distribution of information on the identity of minors on the air in connection with various criminal acts is incorrect from the point of view of professional ethics, noted thechairman of the NTRC Ismet Sattarov .

The code of professional ethics of journalists in Azerbaijan and other countries emphasizes that if children were sexually abused or committed a crime, their anonymity should be preserved in the media.

Their faces must not be shown, it is necessary to introduce them to children under conventional names and surnames, it is also necessary to take measures so that the victim of violence is not recognized.
