Baku: "Currently, nearly 1 billion people do not have official housing registration, and this is a serious problem," Aziza Akmouch, Head of the Cities, Urban Policies and Sustainable Development Division of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), stated at the session titled 'From Policy to Impact: Delivering Housing at Scale' held during WUF13, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Akmouch emphasized that the primary focus of discussions in Baku is the housing shortage and strategies to address it. She highlighted the economic implications of inadequate housing provision, which is intertwined with the development of new geographies. Akmouch pointed out the global challenge, noting that one in every two people in the world struggles to find suitable housing. This issue demands increased attention from the international community.

Akmouch further explained that 37 countries currently face difficulties related to housing provision, with insufficient coordination in this sector. She stressed the importance of prioritizing the housing issue at the governmental level, asserting that it is a responsibility that falls on governments and states.
