Oil Constitutes Nearly Half of Azerbaijan’s Sea Cargo in 2025

Baku: Oil accounted for 47% of cargo transported by sea in Azerbaijan last year, highlighting the country's reliance on oil for maritime trade. The volume of cargo transported by sea in Azerbaijan in 2025 amounted to 9,089.6 thousand tons, marking a 5.4% increase compared to the previous year.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the monthly report from the State Statistical Committee detailed that 47.5% of the cargo transported during the reporting period was oil cargo. This underscores the significant role that oil plays in Azerbaijan's maritime transport sector.

The report also highlighted a decline in passenger transport via sea, with a 10.2% decrease compared to 2024, amounting to 25.5 thousand people. This decline in passenger numbers suggests a potential shift in focus towards cargo transport or other factors affecting passenger travel.

Seaports in Azerbaijan were active, carrying out loading and unloading operations to the tune of 129,59.5 thousand tons. Of this, 10,246.3 thousand tons, or 79.1%, were classified as transit cargo. As of January 1, 2026, the volume of cargo remaining in the ports was recorded at 441.3 thousand tons, indicating an ongoing flow of goods through the country's seaports.
