Baku: Oil transportation through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline decreased significantly in the first two months of this year, with a total of 4,055.1 thousand tons of oil being transported, marking an 8.5% decline compared to the same period last year.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the BTC pipeline accounted for 77% of the total oil transportation through Azerbaijan's main oil pipelines during this period. Of the oil transported via BTC, 83.1%, or 3,368.7 thousand tons, was produced in Azerbaijan, which reflects a 9.4% drop. Meanwhile, oil from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan made up 16.9%, or 686.4 thousand tons, experiencing a 3.5% decrease.

Last year saw a total of 36,306.2 thousand tons of oil transported through Azerbaijan's pipelines, a 6.3% reduction from the previous year. The BTC pipeline handled 74.9% of this transportation, with 27,179.2 thousand tons moved, representing a 7.8% year-on-year decrease. Specifically, 84.8% or 23,056.9 thousand tons of the oil transported via BTC was produced in Azerbaijan, showing a 4.6% decrease, while 15.2% or 4,122.3 thousand tons came from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, which experienced a more substantial reduction of 22.2%.
