Baku: In Azerbaijan, it is proposed to create separate correctional facilities for individuals who commit crimes due to recklessness, this was discussed in the report of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2024 at the meeting of the Human Rights Committee of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) today, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Ombudsman highlighted the positive experiences of foreign countries in managing individuals who have committed crimes due to negligence. These individuals often serve their sentences in correctional facilities with more lenient regimes. The Ombudsman emphasized the importance of establishing separate correctional facilities for individuals who have committed crimes due to recklessness. This proposal is based on a detention facility model that legally ensures these individuals serve their sentences in such specialized facilities, irrespective of the sentence duration.
