Organizing Committee Advances Preparations for 13th United Nations World Urban Forum

Baku: Another meeting of the Organizing Committee for the 13th session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13) was held on March 4. Samir Nuriyev, Head of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, began the meeting by highlighting the importance of urban planning, which is considered a key strategic priority in Azerbaijan's socio-economic agenda. He mentioned that 2026 has been declared the 'Year of Urban Planning and Architecture' to underscore the sector's significance.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Nuriyev emphasized the ongoing efforts under the leadership of the Head of State to achieve balanced growth in both the capital and the regions, aiming for sustainable settlement as part of Azerbaijan's comprehensive development plan. He pointed out Azerbaijan's commitment to global urban development processes and the promotion of innovative approaches that have been successfully implemented in the country. The extensive reconstruction and development efforts in the Garabagh and East Zangezur economic regions were cited as prime examples of these initiatives.

Nuriyev also noted that the upcoming WUF13 in Baku, scheduled for May 2026, has attracted significant international attention. This event will serve as a platform for Azerbaijan to showcase its urban development strategies and the practical experiences applied in the liberated territories to an international audience.

Committee members presented reports detailing progress in various aspects of the WUF13 preparations, including general preparations, substantive discussions, communication strategies, and organizational-logistical work. The meeting concluded with the Chairman issuing instructions for the preparation process, emphasizing the implementation of the Action Plan and adherence to the President's directives to ensure the successful organization and execution of the event.
