Baku: Another meeting of the Organizing Committee for the 13th session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13) was held on December 11, APA reports. Samir Nuriyev, Head of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, initiated the meeting, emphasizing that urban development is a priority in Azerbaijan’s national development strategy, as endorsed by President Ilham Aliyev. He noted that modern approaches adopted in Azerbaijan are enhancing economic sustainability, improving social welfare, and facilitating effective adaptation to climate change.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Nuriyev highlighted the extensive restoration and construction activities, particularly in the Garabagh and East Zangezur economic regions over the past five years, reflecting Azerbaijan’s strategic vision in urban development. He pointed out that the rapid post-conflict restoration has established a new model of urban development in the country.
The Chairman stated that these achievements have heightened international interest in Azerbaijan’s experience, establishing the country as a dependable partner in urban development. Hosting WUF13 in Baku in 2026 underscores Azerbaijan’s contribution to global urban development, its dedication to sustainable development, and the substantial trust it has garnered internationally.
Nuriyev stressed that preparations for WUF13 are receiving direct attention from the President and outlined the progress made since the first meeting of the Organizing Committee. Reports from committee members addressed advancements in general preparations, alongside substantive, communication, and organizational-logistical efforts.
At the end of the meeting, the Chairman provided instructions regarding the WUF13 preparation process, which includes implementing the Action Plan and other tasks in accordance with the President’s directives, to ensure the successful organization and high-level execution of the event.
