Baku: A panel session themed 'UNESCO Creative Cities and Sustainable Urban Development' was held as part of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13).

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event was jointly organized by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Denise Bax, Secretary of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), highlighted that culture is an integral component of all processes. She mentioned UNESCO's readiness to support innovative housing models and foster community and local economic development. Bax noted that culture contributes 3.55 percent to global employment, primarily driven by urban centers.

Deputy Minister of Culture Saadat Yusifova remarked that hosting WUF13 in Baku signifies Azerbaijan's growing international role in sustainable urban development. She emphasized Azerbaijan's rich urban planning and architectural traditions.

The event featured panel discussions that underscored the increasing importance of creative approaches and cultural resources in urban development. Speakers noted that urban regeneration should extend beyond infrastructure projects to include considerations of accessibility, aesthetic appeal, and social inclusivity in public spaces.
