PARIS: Azerbaijani wrestler Maria Stadnik kicked off her journey in the Paris Summer Olympics with a win, making it to the quarterfinals of the competition, Trend reports.

The athlete, going head-to-head in the 50 kg weight category, crossed paths with Anastasia Blaivas, who was flying the flag for Germany, in the 1/8 finals.

Having come out on top with a score of 6:2, Stadnik punched her ticket to the quarterfinals of the competition.

Earlier, Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Sanan Suleymanov also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Olympics.
