BAKU: The parliamentary election will go down as an important milestone in Azerbaijan’s history, Azerbaijani analyst Elshad Hasanov told the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission’s (CEC) Election-2024 Independent Media Center, Trend reports.
“Parliamentary elections will be held throughout Azerbaijan for the first time since independence, making it an important milestone in the country’s history,” he explained.
Hasanov brought out the fact that even after Azerbaijan gained independence, some of its territory remained under Armenian control, rendering voting in those regions impossible.
“However, after the Second Karabakh War, Azerbaijan liberated its lands. Elections will be held in these territories, where people will vote on their native land for the first time.
If our main task before was the liberation of occupied lands, now, with the complete restoration of territorial integrity, we face new challenges-further developing the country, strengthening it as a powerful state, enhancing social protection
for citizens, and facilitating the return of former internally displaced persons to their homelands.
In this context, the formation of a new parliament and its pursuit of new goals are critically important,” he added.
To note, on June 28, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree dissolving the sixth convocation of the Azerbaijani Parliament and scheduling a snap election for September 1.
