Pashinyan said that back in 2007 Armenia recognized Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan

interfax: The international community, including Armenia, recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.

“Despite the fact that Armenia imposed a veto, the 1996 OSCE Lisbon summit stated that the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh should be resolved within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The positions of all countries are also known by the UN Security Council resolutions of 1993. Armenia also recognized that Nagorno-Karabakh is part of Azerbaijan. In 2007, it was recognized. How long can we deny this? The question is whether we want to see it or not? Maybe all our problems are becasue we do not want to see this,” Pashinyan said on the air of the Public Television of Armenia on November 11.

Responding the journalist’s remark that, according to Baku, Armenia, referring to the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991, recognizes Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, Pashinyan said: “The Alma-Ata Declaration is part of our legislation. It was ratified by the Supreme Council of Armenia in February 1992. If I say that I do not accept the Alma-Ata Declaration, it will turn out that I do not recognize the legislation of Armenia.”

“In 1990, Armenia adopted a declaration of independence, referring to the decision of the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR and the National Council of Nagorno-Karabakh of December 1, 1989 “On the reunification of the Armenian SSR and Nagorno-Karabakh.” In 1991, Armenia holds a referendum on independence, Nagorno-Karabakh also declares independence by holding a referendum. Then, in 2007, Armenia, as the basis for negotiations (on the Karabakh settlement – IF), adopts a document in which the status of Nagorno-Karabakh should be clarified by a future referendum. And then what happened to the 1991 referendum in Nagorno-Karabakh? It turns out that Armenia agreed to the annulment of the 1991 referendum on the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. Incidentally, Serzh Sargsyan (former President of Armenia – IF) stated this in 2007 in the United States, noting that we made a big concession by agreeing to hold a new referendum in Nagorno-Karabakh,” Pashinyan said.

He explained that in 2020 he “made a statement” Artsakh (the Armenian name of Nagorno-Karabakh – IF) is Armenia and that’s it, “because he proceeded from the declaration of independence of Armenia, which stipulates the reunification of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.” “Later, it turned out that no one needed it. I was accused because of this statement. It turns out that after the adoption of the declaration of our independence, we ourselves worked against it,” Pashinyan said.

The Prime Minister of Armenia stated that there is not such a country that does not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, and “one should not have illusions.”

“In this situation, if we do not want Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh face a catastrophe, we should not and will not be able to fight against the whole world alone. We must stand face to face with what we have done ourselves, as a result, have an understandable, implementable program how we solve the problem. No matter how painful and difficult it is, we must face this reality,” Pashinyan emphasized.
