Passenger Transportation in Azerbaijan Rises by Nearly 7% in January

Baku: In January of this year, transport operators in Azerbaijan served a total of 167 million 807.9 thousand passengers. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this figure represents an increase of 6.8 percent compared to the same month last year. The report highlighted that 88.8 percent of passengers relied on road transport, while 10.5 percent used the metro, with the remainder opting for other modes of transport. Notably, 856.2 thousand passengers traveled by rail, marking a 20 percent increase from the previous year. However, there was a significant decrease in sea transportation, with the number of passengers dropping by 29.6 percent compared to January 2025, totaling only 1.9 thousand people. Additionally, the data showed that 142 million 860.1 thousand passengers used buses, and 6 million 176 thousand used passenger taxi services. Meanwhile, metro usage saw a decline of 2.2 percent, with 17 million 595.6 thousand passengers recorded. Air transport also saw a rise, with a total of 318.1 thousand pa ssengers, a 5 percent increase from January of last year. Of all these transportations, 99.9 percent were carried out by state-owned transport vehicles, leaving a mere 0.1 percent to private enterprises.
