Lima: The Congress of the Republic of Peru has adopted a statement on the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. Members of the Peru-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group, the diplomatic corps accredited in Peru, and various media representatives gathered to commemorate the tragic events that occurred in 1992.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Rosangella Barbar¡n, a member of the Peru-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group, extended her condolences to the people of Azerbaijan during the event. She emphasized that the tragedy remains a significant part of the nation's history. Azerbaijani embassy official Gultan Gafgazli-Novruzova addressed the gathering, highlighting the history and consequences of the Khojaly genocide and Armenian aggression. She stressed the importance of preserving the memory of the massacre and called for accountability for the perpetrators to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The statement from the Congress expressed support for international efforts aimed at strengthening peace and stability in the Caucasus region. It specifically referenced a high-level meeting held at the White House on August 8, 2025, as part of these efforts. The document concluded by noting that Azerbaijanis worldwide are united in honoring the victims and offered condolences to the families, the government, and the people of Azerbaijan.
