Rome:An ongoing photo exhibition in Rome, Italy, is shedding light on the mine warfare issues faced by Azerbaijan due to the conflict with Armenia. This exhibition is part of the international 'Mine-free world' campaign, spearheaded by Azerbaijan's 'Gilavar Photo Club' Public Union, which aims to raise awareness about the dangers posed by landmines in Azerbaijani territories.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the campaign has become a humanitarian plea to the international community, emphasizing the urgent need to address the landmine problem. Despite the end of the conflict, landmines planted during the occupation continue to threaten civilians, highlighting the importance of ongoing demining efforts.
The campaign has included several photo expositions across Europe, with events held in Geneva, Brno, Ljubljana, Sarajevo, Zagreb, and Salzburg earlier this month. These expositions inform visitors about the challenges posed by the contaminated areas and the lack of accurate mine maps, which hinder the safe return of displaced Azerbaijanis to their homes.
The 'Gilavar' Photo Club's efforts are supported by a 2026 grant from the Agency for State Support of Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Garabagh Revival Fund, in collaboration with ANAMA.
