Abu dhabi: Millions of people around the world are living amid the destruction of disasters they did not cause, and existing recovery mechanisms no longer respond to global challenges, Kathryn Moore, representative of the International Federation of Landscape Architects, said during one of the events held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Moore presented a new global initiative titled the 'Framework for Transformative Recovery After Disasters.' The initiative is not merely another policy document but a call to rethink the concept of post-disaster recovery. It focuses on creating safe and sustainable settlements, providing affordable housing, ensuring social equality, and involving communities in decision-making processes.

The document particularly emphasizes the importance of ensuring that women, elderly people, persons with disabilities, residents of informal settlements, and internally displaced persons are not excluded from recovery processes. This inclusivity is highlighted as a crucial priority.

During her speech, Moore pointed out that recurring disasters have become an inseparable part of the global housing crisis. In many countries, the number of destroyed homes surpasses the pace of constructing safe and affordable housing.
