President Aliyev and President Sisoulith Discuss Strengthening Ties Between Azerbaijan and Laos in Kazan


KAZAN: Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Thongloun Sisoulith, President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, convened in Kazan to explore avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation. The discussions focused on expanding partnerships in various sectors such as economy, trade, investment, tourism, and agriculture, as both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening their countries’ relations.

According to Trend News Agency, President Sisoulith praised the robust relations between Laos and Azerbaijan, noting the potential for further collaboration. He fondly recalled his visit to Baku in 1981 and acknowledged Azerbaijan’s progress since then. He expressed appreciation for the education of numerous Lao specialists in Azerbaijan during the Soviet era, many of whom now hold significant leadership positions in Laos, contributing to its development.

President Sisoulith extended an invitation to President Aliyev to visit Laos, which was met with gratitude. President Aliyev undersc
ored the importance of setting up a working group to boost cooperation in key areas like economy, trade, and energy, and proposed organizing mutual visits by governmental experts to facilitate this collaboration.

Additionally, President Aliyev addressed opportunities for Azerbaijan to continue supporting Laos in the education sector. The meeting also highlighted the upcoming 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, with discussions on their cooperation within international organizations.
