Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Alexei Overchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Commission, on March 2. During the meeting, the Russian side expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani leadership for the prompt assistance provided in evacuating Russian citizens from Iran amid a complex regional situation.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting involved a broad exchange of views on the Azerbaijan-Russia relations agenda. It was noted that, following agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries during their meeting in Dushanbe on October 9, 2025, practical steps will soon be taken to address issues arising from the crash of the AZAL aircraft on December 25, 2024.

The discussion also highlighted the intention to enhance cooperation in the economy, trade, investment, industry, and transport-logistics sectors between Azerbaijan and Russia. Additionally, prospects for improving transport connectivity in the region were addressed, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to advancing the International North-South Transport Corridor.

A number of humanitarian issues were also on the agenda, reinforcing the traditional atmosphere of friendship and constructiveness that characterizes Azerbaijan-Russia interstate dialogue.
