Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter of condolence to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze following the passing of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev expressed his deep sorrow upon receiving the news of Ilia II's passing, highlighting the significant role the religious leader played as a figure of peace and interfaith dialogue. In his letter, President Aliyev described Ilia II as an outstanding religious figure who dedicated his life to serving his people and humanity, and who worked tirelessly for peace, security, and interfaith understanding in the Caucasus region.
President Aliyev also underscored the contributions of Ilia II in fostering the traditional ties of friendship and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia. He conveyed his condolences to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, the Georgian people, and the Georgian Orthodox Church, both personally and on behalf of the Azerbaijani people, acknowledging the profound loss felt by all.
