President Erdogan Confident in US Fulfilling F-35 Fighter Jet Deal Promises

Istanbul: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed optimism following recent discussions with US President Donald Trump concerning the F-35 fighter jet programme. Erdogan highlighted the positive developments in these talks during a conversation with journalists on his return flight from Azerbaijan’s Victory Day celebrations. He conveyed hope that the United States will honour its commitments, which could provide Turkey with significant operational and technological advantages in the region.

According to TRTworld.com, Erdogan emphasized the importance of ongoing technical-level discussions and progress. He noted that the dialogue with President Trump had been fruitful, particularly regarding the F-35 jets. Erdogan stated, “I hope the promises made will be fulfilled and that we will gain strong capabilities with the F-35s.”

In addition to the F-35 discussions, Erdogan addressed broader air force developments, reporting that the Eurofighter deal with the United Kingdom and Germany is advancing well. He mentioned ongoing negotiations with Qatar and Oman, which could lead to the acquisition of additional Eurofighters from these Gulf countries. Erdogan remarked, “There’s also a possibility of obtaining Eurofighters from their fleets. If these agreements come through, it’ll be a positive step for our country.”

Erdogan also highlighted domestic defence industry efforts, underscoring that local initiatives will further enhance Turkey’s strategic reach and technological independence. He concluded by stating, “These steps, together with our national defence projects, will secure stronger capabilities for Turkey in both technology and air operations.”
