New york: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev engaged in a meeting with Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, held at the UN headquarters in New York, APA reports. The dialogue centered around the ongoing efforts to foster peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Secretary General extended congratulations to President Aliyev on the achievements realized between the two nations. President Aliyev expressed his appreciation for these acknowledgments. The conversation highlighted the importance of the Washington meeting, which addressed the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group and the initialing of an agreement aimed at normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Washington Declaration, signed in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump, was also discussed as a pivotal step towards ensuring lasting peace in the region.
Alain Berset underscored the Council of Europe’s support for the regional peace agenda. He fondly recal
led his visit to Azerbaijan during COP29 and his previous meetings with President Aliyev at various international events. The meeting concluded with a shared view on enhancing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe.
