Baku: On March 25, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the 'Absheron' Battery Energy Storage Center of the 'AzerEnergy' Open Joint-Stock Company, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Baba Rzayev, Chairman of the Board of 'AzerEnergy' OJSC, provided information to the head of state about the new center. The project involved the installation of 50 accumulator batteries and 13 inverter containers on the site of the 'Absheron' Battery Energy Storage Center.
Battery Energy Storage Centers are known for their ability to reach full charge or discharge within two hours. These centers capture surplus energy, including that produced during sunny hours, and automatically discharge it into the grid during peak periods when electrical demand is higher. This technology allows for the storage of energy and its dispatch for consumption when needed.
A special control center has been set up at the 'Absheron' Battery Energy Storage Center to manage these systems effectively. A modern management building has been constructed on-site, accompanied by landscaping and greening initiatives.
President Aliyev was also briefed on the integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid and the ongoing digital transformation of the energy system. To mark the official opening, President Ilham Aliyev pressed the button symbolizing the launch of the 'Absheron' Battery Energy Storage Center.
