Shamakhi: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the new building of the Shamakhi European Lyceum, constructed by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the ceremony took place on March 23, with Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, providing detailed information to the head of state about the conditions created at the new lyceum.
The previous building of the European Lyceum had a long history, originally constructed in 1937 and later reconstructed in 1987. However, it had become unfit for use over time. On the instruction of Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, a new building was commissioned to accommodate the growing needs of the educational institution.
The newly constructed lyceum consists of seven blocks with three and four floors, designed to accommodate 1,200 students. It stands as one of the largest schools in the district. The facility is fully equipped with necessary furniture and equipment, and the subject rooms and laboratories are furnished with visual aids and materials to enhance the learning experience.
The new lyceum building includes more than 50 classrooms, as well as specialized rooms such as physics, chemistry, and biology laboratories, informatics and STEAM rooms, and facilities for military training, medical training, and labor training. Additionally, the school is equipped with a library, a canteen, assembly and sports halls, and an outdoor sports ground.
The construction of the lyceum's new building was part of the 'New School for a Renewing Azerbaijan' Program, an initiative implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to improve educational infrastructure across the country.
