Washington: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev sent a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump on the anniversary of the Washington Summit.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the letter marks one year since the historic Washington Summit hosted by the United States on August 8, 2025, which played a pivotal role in establishing peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. President Aliyev expressed gratitude to President Trump for his leadership in resolving a conflict that lasted for three decades, fostering an era of reconciliation and cooperation between the two nations.
The letter highlights the significance of the Trilateral Joint Declaration signed at the White House and the Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. These agreements have been instrumental in securing lasting peace and stability in the region, opening opportunities for sustainable development and cooperation. President Aliyev also emphasized the potential of the TRIPP project in promoting economic cooperation and regional connectivity.
President Aliyev noted that Azerbaijani society is embracing the new peaceful reality in the region. Over the past year, significant progress has been made in advancing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, including the lifting of transportation restrictions and the facilitation of trade. He highlighted the tangible benefits of peace in economic and trade spheres, underscoring efforts to foster an atmosphere of mutual trust.
The letter also acknowledged the strengthening of Azerbaijan-United States bilateral relations following the Washington Summit. The visit of Vice President JD Vance to Azerbaijan and the signing of the Strategic Partnership Charter marked a new phase of strategic partnership between the two nations. President Aliyev praised the extension of the waiver of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act as a step toward restoring historical justice.
President Aliyev expressed pride in the elevated status of Azerbaijan-United States ties, now at their highest point in 34 years of diplomatic relations. He conveyed his sincere gratitude to President Trump for his contributions to establishing and strengthening the strategic partnership.
