Baku: President Ilham Aliyev emphasized Azerbaijan's critical role in international transportation corridors during the 13th Global Baku Forum. "Today, we are an indispensable partner with respect to the East-West and North-South corridors, and actually the only one which is actively participating and investing in both - the Middle Corridor and North-West Corridor," he stated at the forum's opening ceremony.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev highlighted the importance of connectivity in the context of current global challenges. He noted that conflicts often disrupt traditional transportation routes, leading to significant difficulties for people, countries, economies, and supply chains. In response, Azerbaijan has invested revenues from fossil fuel sales into developing its transportation and logistics infrastructure.
President Aliyev pointed out that Azerbaijan's strategic investments have positioned the country as a key player in the East-West and North-South corridors. He underscored that Azerbaijan is the only nation actively participating and investing in both the Middle Corridor and North-West Corridor. The president also mentioned that due to the growing demand to traverse Azerbaijan, the country is committing additional funds to expand the capacity of existing corridors, providing essential transit for many neighboring countries.
