Baku: President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan chaired a crucial meeting addressing agricultural development, underscoring its significance to the nation's regional growth and infrastructure initiatives.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Aliyev emphasized the historical context of agricultural development, tracing it back to the regional development program initiated in 2004. This program played a pivotal role in revitalizing Azerbaijan's regions, enhancing employment, and implementing substantial infrastructure projects, including improvements in gas and electricity supply, road construction, and water systems. The program's success has been evident in the marked increase in agricultural production across various sectors.

The President acknowledged the vital role of subsidies in agricultural development, noting Azerbaijan's unique approach to diversified subsidy mechanisms. He highlighted the importance of methodological guidance and support measures, such as concessional loans and discounts on fertilizers and fuel, which have significantly propelled agricultural progress.

President Aliyev expressed concern over the recent stagnation in agricultural production dynamics and announced plans for a new comprehensive State Program aimed at revitalizing the sector. This program will focus on public and private-sector investments, addressing issues like global conflicts, urbanization trends, and food security challenges.

During the meeting, President Aliyev presented detailed statistics on Azerbaijan's self-sufficiency ratios across various agricultural products, emphasizing the need to reduce imports and enhance local production. He called on both local and foreign investors to contribute to the country's agricultural sector, highlighting investment opportunities and the necessity of modernizing agricultural practices.

The President also outlined key tasks for the agricultural sector, including efficient land use, precise crop analysis, and the implementation of modern irrigation systems. He stressed the importance of increasing productivity and expanding export opportunities, while also focusing on meeting domestic demand.
